Dear Windermere friends and family,
Week 34 – Guest Surveys
So far I have collected every guest survey for the year. We ask each guest to complete a survey after their stay. I am pleased that overall our completed surveys are better than we have seen in the past two summers.
Our team is getting better at customer service. While we continue to have a maintenance breakdown or two during a stay, we can always be at our best in serving every guest who steps on our campus. My point is – how we conduct ourselves is the most important factor. I am proud of my team here.
The thought occurred to me – I wonder what kind of guest surveys we would get as followers of Christ.
Jesus was once talking to a large group of people while standing on an elevated peak. In that rather brief sermon, he spoke what some have called the “Mount Everest of Ethics.” Some know it as the Golden Rule. It is found in Mathew 7:12 –
Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them – this is the Law and the Prophets.
Jesus makes a very subtle point here. Instead of saying , “Don’t do this…” he says, “Do this…” While this is worth studying for sure, more importantly this verse is worth living. The best thing about the verse is we don’t have to create a long list of what not to do. Who really enjoys a long list of rules and regulations? The greatest message we can communicate to the lost world is a message of Christ-like character.
No message is more needed, or more powerful.
The story is told of a man who was waiting behind a car at a red light. The car in front had a lady who was shuffling through papers and missed the green light completely. With the car window down, the man began to yell, curse and beat the steering wheel. From out of nowhere a policeman tapped on his window and said sorry sir you will have to come with me. The man protested loudly sayin you can’t arrest me for yelling. After serveral hours in a holding cell, the policeman said to the man, you free to go. The man said, I told you, you can’t arrest me for yelling and beating my steering wheel. The policeman said, I did not arrest you for yelling, I arrested you because I saw the cross hanging on your rearview mirror, the “Choose
Life” license plate, the “Jesus is Coming” bumper sticker plus the FISH symbol…
so I thought you must have stolen the car.
Our problem is not that we are being ignored by the world; our problem is we are being observed.
