Week 5 – Hospitality
Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it. Hebrews 13:2
The first and perhaps the largest part of Windermere’s ministry is hospitality. Nearly every one of the visitors to Windermere sleeps in a nice warm bed and goes through the dining hall for a quality meal. That is why hospitality is the largest part of our ministry.
In Hebrews 13:2 we actually read the word hospitality. It comes from the Greek word philoxenia or love to strangers. The Bible says we area to show love to strangers because without knowing it, we might be entertaining angels.
I know it can be hard for some people to show love to strangers. Why is that? Well I am sure it has a lot to do with how people are different. The two ways we always get hung up on loving strangers involves our tendency to compare ourselves with others and control others.
Over the years, the best way I have found to love strangers is to follow this rule – treat others the way you would like to be treated. Matthew 7:12says; “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught inthe law and the prophets.” We usually call that the Golden Rule.
