Week 17 – The Parable of the Boat
As the weather here at Windermere gets a little warmer, I am starting to see more boats in our cove.
One thing that every fisherman needs– a boat. Gosh, there are fast and loud boats. There are some boats that are good for trolling slowly along the banks. Some boats are like sports cars. They are shining and clean. Other boats are more to just “get the job done.”
I think boats would make for a good object lesson for those of us who follow Christ. Here is a story with a meaning or parable for your consideration –
There once was a little boy who spent many months building his own toy boat that he crafted down to the tiniest detail. Once it was finished, he took it down to a nearby lake to see if it would really float. Unfortunately, as soon as he launched it into the water, there was a strange current and an unexpected wind that took the boat far away from him quickly. Though he chased after it along the bank, he eventually couldn’t keep up with his boat and it floated away. Heartbroken the little boy knew how hard he would have to work to build another boat.
Farther down the lake shore line, a man found the toy boat and took it into town and sold it to a shop keeper. Later as the boy was walking through town, he noticed the boat in the store window.
Entering the store, he told the owner that the boat belonged to him. He pointed out the marks he had made but unfortunately he really couldn’t prove the boat was actually his. The man said that if the boy really wanted his boat back he would have to buy it. So, that is exactly what the boy did.
As he took the boat from the store owner’s hand, he looked at the boat and said, “Little boat, you’re twice mine. I made you and I bought you.”
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Prayer request: In a few short weeks campers will be hearing the gospel for the very first time. Pray that Windermere will be place where campers realize the price that God paid so that they might have eternal life!
