Week 21 – Pressure
Ready or not, here they come. Before we know it Windermere will begin our full on camp season. We will have over 1,000 people here starting in June. We will have between 40 and 50 summer interns arriving this week. The place is busy. The pressure in mounting.
How about you – do you feel pressure sometimes? I sort of think we all do. We all are always getting ready for something, aren’t we? Stress is a part of everyone’s life.
As Windermere gets ready for the summer the life lesson I am learning is simple – The presence of stress is normal, but the prison of stress is optional.
I sometimes have to ask myself – Am I laughing less? Am I seeing more problems than promises? Am I assuming things are going to go bad? Some of this comes with the leading of a camping and conference ministry like Windermere. But it doesn’t have to become a prison of pressure.
The Bible says this in Philippians 4:4-8
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
In this beautiful passage one can find four ways to break out of the prison of stress
- Rejoice at how God blesses and provides
Application – How has God taken care of you in the past six months?
- Pray asking God to help
Application – Thank God for all those ways he helped you
- Present your worries to God and leave it there
Application – List your pressures and leave it on the throne.
- Think about encouraging things
Application – Don’t get hung up with verse 8 and make it a 6 point check list. Focus on the one person who exemplifies this list– Jesus! (See Philippians 4:13)
