Week 23 – God So Loved
Praise the Lord – Monday, the first day of camp, our largest group on campus had approximately 65 salvations. Christ in Youth, https://www.ciy.com/, is a great ministry out of Joplin. We have been partnering with them for years. They have a passion for
students and for sharing the gospel.
During their invitation time, students are asked to go and speak with their group leader. When a student actually prays to receive Christ, their group leaders are asked to hit a button that illuminates a light in the crowd. Can you imagine how it looks? Each light is a life that is eternally changed!
There is perhaps no greater verse in the Bible than John 3:16, it is simple and profound –
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
- God “so loved”
Many think God is an angry old man sitting in heaven waiting to punish those who have messed up. God does hate sin, but high above that truth we should write this – God is love. This verse also says GOD SO LOVED. In other words, His love knows no bounds.
- God “gave”
God is not just saying something about a feeling. He is acting upon that emotion. You can’t love someone if you are not willing to give.
- God gave “his one and only Son”
God did not give us the cattle on a thousand hills. He did not give us gold and silver or houses and land. He gave us something more precious than all of those. He had only one son and he gave him up.
- God gave his Son to “whosoever”
I am sure we have some who think that whoever means America. But that is not what it means. It doesn’t mean Europe or Africa and Asia. As a little child once said, “Whosoever means you, me and everybody.”
- God says we can have “eternal life”
In John 17:3 we read, “This is eternal life, that they may know You…” Eternal life means knowing Jesus. This word “know” in the Greek language, means knowing something first hand. The love of God is best understood first hand!
