Why Your Happiness Isn’t Working

Why Your Happiness Isn’t Working

Learn to Live in the Fullness of Joy

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)

The joy of the Spirit that the Apostle Paul is talking about is unique. It’s not talking about a worldly definition of joy, but His joy. Fullness of Joy.

And it’s fulfilling in a way that the world’s happiness isn’t: It’s an overflow of joy from the Holy Spirit that’s never-ending!

My dad used to tell me, “There are only two things that you can control: Yourself and how you react to everything else.”

Being a faithful follower of Christ’s teachings brings inner joy that’s real and resilient, regardless of the economy, the weather, interest rates, and others’ negative opinions of you.

Joy vs. Happiness

You can’t be happy without being joyful, but you can be joyful without being happy! It’s impossible to be happy all the time, but we can live in the fullness of His joy.

How’s that possible? Jesus had previously told His disciples that we enjoy a love that transcends all others — the love of our heavenly Father, which He offers unconditionally. And once we accept it, we can experience it permanently!

Nothing can compare to God’s joy. His joy isn’t based on circumstances or even our moral goodness.

Happiness comes and goes. It’s conditional, circumstantial, and often short-lived. That’s why we see so many famous and wealthy people in our culture struggle. They all thought that fame and possessions would make their lives complete. But they often feel incomplete because the happiness their lifestyle brought was temporary.

But when we bask in His love, we experience joy almost like a wellspring bubbling out of the ground. And since the world didn’t give you this joy, the world can’t take it away! Joy is a choice. You can lean into joy and turn life’s most challenging moments into an inner victory!
