Hello Windermere Friends,
Today is week three of our 8 week prayer emphasis at Windermere. We are putting this little update on our Website blog, and Facebook now, so all our friends can like the page and Windermere news can go viral. Welcome to the modern age of communication……
A mentor of mine used to always talk about the difference between knowledge and discernment. Knowledge is the acquisition of facts and discernment is the ability to recognize beyond what is said. You need balance between the two to maintain your spiritual equilibrium.
The Bible has several examples of discernment- here is one bad example and one good example. The first example is 3 John 9-10. In this passage John talks about Diotrephes who “loved to be first” and was “unjustly accusing.” Diotrephes was a leader in the church who was so overbearing in his leadership that John was forced to declare him way out of line.He was a very capable man who lacked self-awareness. Knowledge without discernment can be dangerous to a group.
The second example is in Acts 17:11. Here we find the Bereans who eagerly “received the word” of Paul and Silas. It is interesting that there is a subtle difference between suspecting and discerning. The Bereans perked up and were absorbing all that was being taught. Then they immediately went to Scripture to see if it squares with the truth. The Bereans gained knowledge and made sure they added discernment.
One of my new friends in town is a local pastor. As he and I talked we both agreed. What Windermere really needs is to string together 10 really good decisions. By really good decisions, I mean balancing knowledge and discernment. This could be true for every follower of Christ.
1. Pray that Windermere can gain knowledge plus discernment in our redirection plan.
2. Pray for our financial health. This slow season is a challenge.
3. Pray for the churches signed up this year. Ask God to prepare their hearts.
