Hello Windermere Friends,
In the final four weeks of our prayer campaign for Windermere on Wednesdays, I want to touch on the steps in our Windermere strategy. The vision statement for Windermere is straight forward and I think compelling.
Windermere seeks to provide a Christian environment for life changing experiences.
So how does that happen? What can we do at Windermere to bring about life change? Today I want us all to pray about the first step in our strategy – hospitality. In the next three weeks I will share the other three steps in our strategy, one by one.
In Genesis 18 we find an account of Abraham camping near the Oaks of Mamre. Three men visit him and Abraham falls over himself trying to show hospitality. As one Bible teacher put it, this has become almost proverbial for Judaism and Christianity. You might be hosting angels unaware.
But it is the passage in 1 Peter 4:7-11 that speaks into our strategy the most.
Peter is admonishing his followers to be steady until Christ returns. In this passage you can find four basic instructions for hospitality.
1. Be sound in judgment, stay calm and pray v. 7
2. Keep fervent in love for one another v. 8
3. Be hospitable to one another without complaint v. 9
4. Keep serving one another v. 10-11
In summarizing these verses into one statement I would say – To be hospitable we must prayerfully avoid crazy extremes, stay determined to love others, including the whole body of Christ and serve others not only in our strength but with God’s strength.
Windermere provides a warm bed and three hot meals a day. It is safe to say that rest and food are the very keys to life. Whether your group is 2 or 2,000, Windermere believes in being the best host we can be, to the glory of God.
The first step in our ministry of providing a Christian environment for life change is HOSPITALITY.
1. Pray today that Windermere can grow its ministry of hospitality.
2. Pray for the urgent financial needs of Windermere as we plan all of 2015.
God bless you,
