Dear Windermere Friends,
Today is week 6 of our prayer campaign for Windermere. Today we get to talk about Outdoor Adventure!
Let’s recall our mission –
Windermere seeks to provide a Christian environment for life changing experiences.
In the book, When I Relax I Feel Guilty, author Tim Hansel writes that many times we do not give ourselves permission to have joy. In other words, living life can sometimes rob us of excitement, joy, expectation and awe.
I believe that we need more fun. It is joyous to relax and not feel guilty. Windermere can be a joyous place. We are blessed to have a picturesque spot on the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. We have a waterfront that affords us a great aquatics playground in the summer. We have the Edge, a top of the line adventure recreation spot. We have hiking, caving, paintball and more. We lump it all together and call it Outdoor Adventure.
Outdoor adventure is a pathway for life change when we are reminded of God’s works. Outdoor adventure is life changing when we are renewed through Godly expectation, excitement and fun!
There are two familiar passages in Scripture that talk about life change in outdoor adventure –
Psalm 8:3-4 says this – When I observe Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You set in place 4 what is man that You remember him, the son of man that You look after him?
The Psalmist says that when he sees God’s “finger work” he is reminded that in all this beauty, God still remembers and looks after him. I don’t know how many times I have been so busy that I drift off into mindset that says I am on my own. Guess what, you are not alone. God cares for you and looks after you! That is life changing. Just try sitting beside the Lake of Ozarks and not be changed by God’s handiwork!
The other passage is Isaiah 40:29-31 –
He gives strength to the weary and strengthens the powerless. 30 Youths may faint and grow weary, and young men stumble and fall, 31 but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.
Here Isaiah is saying to all of us sometimes when are at our weakest, God provides renewal. It is exciting to experience trust, soaring and endurance without fainting. I can imagine a zip line 100 feet off the ground and experiencing the joy of soaring! That kind of fun is life changing too. Our Lord is a Lord of joy and fun!
This week as you pray remember the following
1. Pray that more churches can find renewal through Outdoor Adventure at Windermere.
2. Pray that life change can always glorify God at Windermere.
3. Pray that in the midst of financial challenges… we are not alone, God takes care of us!
