Dear Windermere Friends,
Positive talk always generates momentum. Negative information does two things to our minds – 1) it slows forward movement and 2) it closes our mind. Our mind-set becomes fixed and closed to anything else. When your mind-set is fixed there is no room for growth.
Having a fixed mind-set means you think things are the way they are, and that’s pretty much it., on the other hand, means you believe things are not static, and you have the ability to change and learn. Simply adding the word yet to the statements you make may be enough to change beliefs about the future. The adverbial yet stands at the junction of past and future, expressing the persistence of action in time.
According to Stanford University’s Carol Dweck, the psychologist behind the much-praised book Mindset: The New Psychology for Success, the attitude that we bring to our creative work can play a huge role in shaping just how much of our inborn talents we realize. The word yet is a key word for growth.
Here are my top Windermere “yet” statements.
1. Windermere doesn’t appear as pristine in appearance as it used to be….YET
From our feedback and evaluations instruments we have identified 3-5 major appearance issues. Our task now is improvement. We are not there YET, but believe me we are gearing up to see noticeable improvement.
2. Windermere doesn’t seem to be growing….YET
Our sales team maintains constant communication with all of former customers going back 5 years. Retention and acquisition of customers is a daily grind. Growth hasn’t happened YET but our team is intent in seeing more groups on campus and more lives changed.
3. Windermere doesn’t seem to know what they are doing….YET
Believe me when I say the learning curve has been steep. But, I promise you, we know our metrics and we know our numbers. We may not be experts YET, but we are fully engaged and we are making strides daily.
4. Windermere cannot seem to get out of debt…..YET
Windermere has a long term strategy to climb out of its debt. It will not be easy nor will it be quick. We are not debt free YET but incrementally we have a plan to be debt free.
The bottom line is Windermere is not at the finish line. We have bumped against very difficult times in 2014. But, we have in place a new process. Our trajectory is positive. Windermere doesn’t operate with a fixed mind-set. We have a growth mind-set. Isn’t that a better to way to the abundant life about which Christ talked?
Please help us with a donation –
Go to windermereusa.logosconnect.com and set up a monthly donation of $10 a month for 12 months (or one year). With that small amount, Windermere can become more efficient and effective in the ministry of seeing lives changed on our campus. It is always a pretty day at the lake!
